On Friday I was the guest speaker at my sister's 6th grade math classes. We talked about things are different in other countries and we converted time, currency, pounds, and temperature. It was so fun. Several of the students asked for my autograph after. That was hilarious. We definitely need to add asking for autographs to random real life events beyond book signings and sports sidelines. Great barista? Ask for an autograph. Excellent checker outer at grocery store - autograph. Garbage team - autographs.
I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by *waves hands maniacally* everrrything. Took a stupid walk, got off my phone, cleaned up the garden (and got bitten by a spider). But the real treasure was sitting in a room full of like-minded people tonight at a bookstore and hearing Erin tell us to knock that li'l religion cop off our shoulders. Truly a treasure of an evening.
I'm feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by all.the.things. I keep holding onto a practice a friend mentioned and each day finding at least one happy marshmallow I can toast on this dumpster fire.
Well, the world is burning so there's that. Didn't get a chance to call my reps this week (holymoly it was a doozy of a week), but I'm looking forward to/doing it scared next week. Cannot WAIT to meet you tomorrow in Davidson! My daughter celebrated her 2nd annual 29th birthday yesterday so I took a half day off from my toxic job (anticipating my escape hatch from there). We had a good time. And tomorrow we’re day tripping to Charlotte for stuff she wants to do and then she’s coming with me to the book signing. Our administration sucks but life is good this weekend.
I am feeling quite stressed about the state of our country and feeling like there's not anything I can really do about it. All of my reps are republican and, while I've been leaving messages often, I don't feel like it makes any difference. I am already tired of waking up every day to more stories of chaos.
On a happier note, I moved to a floating house on a lake seven months ago in the mountains of NC and am super excited by the mild weather we're starting to have and cannot wait to watch Spring come alive.
Relevant to community interests, I went to the Dancing With the Stars tour last night and it was so fun! There is a part where they pull people from the audience and Alan's partner was this tiny Hispanic lady and he took such good care of her and they were so precious. I also ate an excellent sandwich today. I firmly believe that a great sandwich can cover a multitude of sins.
Treasure of all treasures! I am at my favorite East Coast beach with my 3 besties from across the country from 3 different seasons (drink) of my life for my 50th bday. I cannot stop laughing or smiling!
Feeling good today. Planted a flat of pansies into pots. They smelled delightful. The minute I got them out of the car a bee flew up to check them out! Yay, nature!
Happy Friday!! Today is not as fun as last Friday. My parents took me and my husband to dinner in Birmingham to celebrate my birthday (which was last Saturday) and WHO DO WE RUN INTO?!! Only best selling author, Erin Moon and podcaster extraordinaire, Jamie Golden! Definitely made my night and my birthday better!! It’s the little things while our country is being bunted to the ground by an orange sycophant and his minions.

Because I dread checking instagram to see what news Sharon or NPR has, I’m listening to 2017 episodes of the Boo Cast even though I’ve listened to them all before. However, a week with our 22 mo grandson is around the corner!
Re: people and annoyance:I think often of the Ezra Klein guest who lived in intentional community who said, “I would rather orient my life toward the problems of community, instead of the problems of loneliness.”
The news sends me into a daily spiral, which I make worse by listening to podcasts about the news. I told myself I was not going to do it this time, but I have no will power. On the positive side it's going to be almost 80 here today (in Central IL), but then there's a chance of severe storms. My mantra this year is to "notice the good", but alas I'm not doing well there. I will soothe my worries with pie today though!

This weekend is my husband's birthday, so I'm going to do my best to celwbrate him and stay away from screens unless it is watching movies/comedians.
