I have a metric crap-ton of treasures for you this week, so many that Substack is warning me not to type too much else otherwise the system will revolt and important things will get cut off. So I will let the treasure trove speak for itself this week! Plus, I know you are all very cool and have busy schedules and *who has the time* to listen to me ramble when a new season of Bridgerton awaits? My SIL and I have big plans to get some Thai food delivered and do some yearning, so LFG. Let this be your pre-game to the binge ahead (if you haven’t already begun).

💁‍♂️ If you have a kid in your life who needs a reminder that it is 100% amazing to be exactly who they are, I cannot recommend Jonathan Merritt’s new book, My Guncle and Me, more. Tender and sweet, it’s a delight.

👏🏾 Major props to this young king teaching his little brother about periods. We need more of this!

🚿 It’s easy to feel like you’re the only one who doesn’t have it all together, that no one else has a disgusting floor and struggles with parenting, etc. Poems like this one bring me back to the reality that exactly none of us have it all figured out.

🎩 I’ll hop on the newest internet trend and say when I’m looking for a man in finance, this is what I mean.

🖤 Taylor has now added TTPD to her Eras tour setlist and I don’t really want to dish out the cash to see her again but also, should I dish out the cash to witness the new TTPD songs that have been added?? I’ll just be here doing this on repeat. I also really enjoyed that she referred to her album Female Rage the Musical, and I will now be using that title henceforth. Anyway, if anyone wants to sell two tickets to a US show, HMU.

👶 Lil Treasures #228: Baby Steps and Hype Squads

Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours! I hope regardless of where you find yourself this weekend, you have an opportunity to celebrate those that have loved you into being (referencing Mister Rogers here, obviously). Biological mothers or not, there are people in all of our lives who showed up for us, offering tenderness, empathy, and love. I am grateful for these important figures in my own life, and know that without their care I would be a different person.

For anyone who has a tricky time with this holiday, we hold space for you and honor your grief, your unfulfilled longings, your anger and your weariness. May you feel nurtured by the love of God this weekend even in the midst of your hard feelings 🖤

💔 It is heartbreaking to see what is unfolding in Gaza each day. I truly feel like I don’t have the words, and I get overwhelmed with sadness and feelings of helplessness, all the while driving my kids to their activities and doing basic tasks that I don’t even have to think about. Kat Armas writes about this juxtaposition of balancing both normal life things and devastating grief in her recent post. This is also a powerful tweet on the same truth:

🐛 Lil Treasures #227: Bookworms and Cheesy Chicken Rice

We have entered the month of May (cue daunting music) and I am trying to carb up to make sure I have the endurance needed for all of the scheduled activities ahead. Who’s with me?!

No attempt from me at a clever intro today, I’ll let the treasures speak for themselves.

😵‍💫 Every stage of parenting has a different set of struggles, but I do believe these teen years might destroy me. If you don’t believe me, go take a look into what it’s like to parent a teen.

👩🏽‍🍼 I have always loved the image of God as a mother, full of compassion and tenderness and care. If you feel the same way, go read David Gates’ recent poem called Holy Mother. David will also be posting a whole host of poems about mothers leading up to Mother’s Day (May 12), so make sure you follow him on Instagram if you want to stay in the loop!

🪇 There’s not much that the ambiance of a Mexican restaurant and an order of cheesy chicken rice can’t solve.

🥒 It’s getting hot, which means it’s time for cold-food summer. The first recipe I’m trying is this Trader Joe’s chickpea, feta and cucumber salad. Get in my belly.
